Both Snickers and Twix are owned by Mars Wrigley.

Snickers came out in 1930 and was named after a horse that the Mars family loved. It was original called a Marathon bar in the United Kingdom, but its name changed to Snickers in 1990. In 2019, Mars briefly renamed Snickers in the U.K. back to Marathon to mark the 30 years of the name change to Snickers.

Twix was original called Raider and was launched in the UK. The UK market first enjoyed Twix in 1967. It took until 1979 for it to be introduced in the United States under the Twix brand name. The Raider name has since been changed to Twix in the U.K.

Popularity

Snickers is much more popular than Twix when looking at 2019 data of people who consumed the candy bars. According to Statista.com, 42.55 million people in the United States consumed Snickers in 2019 whereas 20.4 million people consumed Twix in that same year.

Ingredients

When you look at the ingredients of Snickers vs Twix, you will notice two primary difference. Firstly, Snickers has peanuts whereas Twix does not. Furthermore, Snickers uses eggs where Twix does not not.

Nutrition Facts

Generally, you don’t eat a Snickers or Twix for their nutritional value. However, it is often important to know the nutrition facts of what you eat, to help maintain or strive to achieve a healthy body weight.

Snickers and Twix have relatively similar nutrition facts. Both have 250 calories with 12 grams of total fat. Twix has a bit more saturated fat and carbs, but has less sugar and sodium. Snickers is the better choice for protein at 4 grams vs 2 grams for the Twix.

Structure

Snickers Layers- A Snickers has a nougat center. If you are wondering what the heck is nougat, check out this video by Adam Ragusea for an excellent in-depth explanation. On top of the nougat are roasted peanuts and caramel. The outer layer is milk chocolate that covers the nougat, caramel, and peanut interior.

Twix Layers – The center of a Twix is a biscuit or cookie made of shortbread or ingredients similar to shortbread. On top of the biscuit is a generous layer of caramel. The biscuit and caramel are covered by milk chocolate.
