Does Orange Soda Have Caffeine?

Typically, orange soda does not have caffeine. However, not all orange soda is caffeine free.

We reviewed a selection of orange soda brands to determine if they had caffeine. See our results in the table below.

Sunkist, Diet Sunkist and MTN Dew Live Wire all contain caffeine. The Sunkist products have 19 grams of caffeine and the MTN Dew Live Wire has 54 grams per 12 fluid ounces.

For reference, a 12 ounce cup of coffee has approximately 136 mg of caffeine per the USDA.

All other orange sodas we examined were caffeine free.

Determining the Caffeine in Orange Soda

Determining how much caffeine is in a particular orange soda is simply a matter of reading the product label.

If a soda is caffeine free, the label will commonly have the words “Caffeine Free” written on it.

If a orange soda has caffeine, it is typical to find the amount of caffeine printed on the label.

Furthermore, you can examine the ingredients. For example, here are the ingredients for regular Sunkist:

Carbonated Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate Preservative, Natural Flavors, Modified Food Starch, Ester Gum, Caffeine, Yellow 6, Red 40

As you can see above, Sunkist has caffeine as an ingredient. If caffeine is added to a food or beverage (like Sunkist soda), the caffeine must be listed in the ingredients per U.S. requirements.
