The noticeable difference between the ingredients is in how they are sweetened. Dr Pepper uses high-fructose corn syrup while Diet Dr Pepper contains the artificial sweetener, aspartame.
It is advised to limit consumption of high-fructose corn syrup which can lead to health issues like obesity, diabetes, leaky gut, inflammation, and fatty liver disease if not kept in check.
According to WebMD, aspartame as a low-calorie sweetener may not assist people in losing weight with some studies finding it may actually slow down the metabolism and potential results in weight gain. However, it has been deemed safe by many authoritative agencies including the FDA.
