About Vernors
Vernors Original hails from Detroit, Michigan, and dates back to 1866. This ginger soda was created by James Vernor, a pharmacist, who operated a soda fountain alongside his pharmacy. Before Vernor left to fight in the Civil War in 1862, he left a barrel of ingredients (ginger, vanilla, and spices) in a cask to age. He returned years later to find a delicious concoction of aged ginger ale that would become Vernors. That’s the legend anyway. Vernor likely did not invent Vernors Ginger Ale until after his military duty had ended. Sources show that the soda was not released for sale until 1880.
