One of its first products was a cereal called Kashi Pilaf made with raw grains and sesame seeds. It was released in 1983 and it wasn’t an immediate success with customers. The Taubers were required, however, to press on because they invested all they had ($25,000 in savings) in the business. Thankfully they did! It slowly paid off as the trend toward healthier eating and natural foods began to take shape in the 1990s and beyond.
