Mexene is an old American chili powder brand that was introduced in 1906 by John Walker in a South Texas town. The chili powder was designed to provide the flavor similar to many cowboy chilis of the region. It soon became the chili powder of choice to produce classic Texas chili. Olde Thompson was started by George S. Thompson in 1944. George was a war veteran who was recently retired after serving in Europe. Watkins began in 1868 when J.R. Watkins started manufacturing liniment out of his home kitchen in Plainview, Minnesota.
