Yes, 409 cleaner is still being made. However, it was difficult to find during 2020 when the uncertainties of COVID were elevated and people were stocking up on things like cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and similar products.
Clorox, the makers of 409, prioritized the manufacturing of other disinfectants that were high in demand, effective at killing the COVID-19 virus, and which allowed for the most efficient production of the products. This included produces such as Clorox Bleach and Pine-Sol.
A spokesperson for Clorox, Molly Steinkrauss, told The Dallas Morning News in early 2021 the following, “We are just now ramping back up production of our Formula 409 cleaners and expect to catch up with demand later this year.”
Based on the above, Formula 409 products should be readily available where sold. The Formula 409 website lists these stores as examples of places that carry 409: Kroger, Walmart, Target, Safeway/Albertsons & affiliates, Dollar General, Walgreens, Lowes, Ace Hardware, and many other major retailers.
We randomly selected the stores and locations listed below to see if 409 products really are in stock. Based on the data, it appears that stores are carrying the multi-surface cleaner. If you use other 409 products, it may be a bit of a challenge to find them. Amazon is one retailer that has multiple 409 products available to ship asap.
