Tropicana was started by Anthony T. Rossi who was born in Sicily, Italy. He moved to America in his early 20s and eventually made his way to Florida where he packed gift boxes full of citrus fruit for sale. Rossi ended up purchasing a tiny orange juice company that became the beginning of Tropicana.

Minute Maid

Minute Maid started in 1945 and was initially called Florida Foods Corporation. Their purpose was to develop powdered orange juice for the soldiers of WWII, but the war concluded before the business started operations.

The focus shifted to the consumer market after the war. A new product idea was formed based on new innovation that allowed the company to create a frozen orange juice concentrate. This concentrate was first sold in 1946 under the new business name Vacuum Foods Corporation. It wasn’t until 1949 that the company officially changed its name to Minute Maid.

The company was purchased by Coca-Cola North America in 1960. While Minute Maid is commonly associated with orange juice, they make a variety of juices, including apple.

Tree Top

Tree Top was started by a man named Bill Charbonneau in Selah, Washington. He bought an apple processing plant and started to make apple juice in the 1950s. Charbonneau required the juice to meet a high-standard in order to be suitable to offer to consumers. Tree Top was bought by a cooperative in 1960. Today, the company still maintains the high-quality standards that Charbonneau demanded.
